International cooperation and exchanges are important tasks of ESC. Since its foundation, ESC has been constantly strengthening its cooperation with international organizations and institutions (e.g., the International Association for Ecology (IAE), the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE), the International Ecological Engineering Society (IEES), the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME), the International Society for Human Ecology, the Sino-Ecologists Association Overseas (Sino-Eco), etc.) and ecological societies of various countries to participate in major international academic activities. The influence and prestige of Chinese scientists in the international ecological field have been increasing.

In recent years, ESC has successfully held the 10th International Conference on Ecological Model, the International Conference on Ecological Engineering, the 5th International Conference on Ecological City, the 12th International Congress of Ecology, the 3rd International EcoSummit Congress, the 10th INTECOL International Wetlands Conference, the 8th IALE World Congress, the Academic Annual Conference of the East Asian Federation of Ecological Societies (EAFES), etc. ESC has significantly enhanced its international academic influence.
