The 12th International Congress of Ecology Was Concluded in Beijing

On August 25, 2017, the 5-day 12th International Congress of Ecology (INTECOL 2017 Beijing) came to a successful conclusion. A total of 2,494 people registered for the Congress, and 2,518 people attended it. A total of 12 sessions with invited speakers and 74 symposiums with thematic topics were held during the Congress. A total of 30 companies, enterprises, periodical publishers and social groups from home and abroad were engaged in product demonstrations and various publicity activities.
Luo Fuhe, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Shona Myers, President of the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL), Shu Wei, Secretary of the Secretariat of China Association for Science and Technology, Zhang Jianlong, Administrator of the State Forestry Administration, as well as Academician Fu Bojie, Vice President of the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL) and President of the Academic Committee of the Congress, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches, calling on ecology practitioners to pay close attention to ecological civilization and sustainable development and promote the development of ecology and the social harmony and progress together. HRH Prince Charles delivered a video speech of congratulation at the opening ceremony of the Congress. He earnestly hoped that ecologists from all over the world can take advantage of this rare opportunity to enhance academic exchanges and propose effective solutions to the biodiversity loss facing all countries in the world. Liu Shirong, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Congress and President of the Ecological Society of China (ESC), presided over the opening ceremony. Jiang Youxu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Wenhua, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Alan Covich, Vice President of the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL) and Co-Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Congress, and other people attended the opening ceremony.
The Congress also adopted the "Beijing 2017 Declaration" on the basis of extensive solicitation of proposals. The Beijing 2017 Declaration aims to promote more extensive and effective cooperation, maintain ecological safety, achieve sustainable development, protect the Earth, our common home, and promote the ecological civilization construction.
At the closing ceremony, Liu Shirong, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Congress and President of the Ecological Society of China (ESC), express sincere and heartfelt thanks to the institutions participating in congress organization (e.g., the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS; the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), CAS; the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA), CAS; the State Key Laboratory of Urban and Regional Ecology (SKLURE); the State Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change; the State Key Laboratory of Desert and Oasis Ecology; the Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences (NIES) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection; Nanjing Forestry University; Hangzhou Normal University; Nanjing University Ecological Research Institute of Changshu; the College of Environment and Planning (CEP) at Henan University, etc.); the hard-working staff of the Secretariat of the Ecological Society of China (ESC) and Shanghai Wanyi Exhibition and Conference Management Co., Ltd.; as well as all the representatives attending the Congress. Ms. Shona Myers, President of the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL), fully affirmed the Congress, and expressed her gratitude to the Congress for its orderly and efficient organization work!
